The centre aims to provide an equally accessible health service to women regardless of age, disability, geographical location, sexual orientation, financial status, ethnic origin and background. Where barriers exist the centre aims to develop strategies to overcome them.
The centre provides a wide variety of services, including:

  • Direct services to community women either face-to-face, on the telephone, by mail or electronic communications.
  • Community education programs.
  • Training for other service providers.
  • Referral to other agencies.
  • Resource centre for women.

Health Workers

The Health Workers at the centre provide individual support, groupwork and community education in specific areas of women's health including: emotional health and wellbeing, menstrual health, diet, nutrition and body image issues, older women's issues, breast health, lesbian health and other health issues.

Group Program

A program of activities including groups, workshops and information sessions around issues such as stress, assertiveness, midlife health, body image, breast health, menstrual health and natural therapies.

General Practitioner

The Centre aims to provide a GP service that is sensitive to the special needs of women. The GP at the Centre offers half hour appointments and bulk-bills all clients.

She currently works at the Centre for three sessions per week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9.30am - 12.45pm.

Information Resources

The Centre has a library of books and videos that are available for loan. In addition the Centre has an extensive range of pamphlets and information sheets on women's health issues and also houses a number of relevant magazines and journals.

Women are welcome to telephone or come into the Centre to access any information held by the Centre. If a woman is calling outside the Hobart metropolitan area the worker at the Centre can immediately phone her back.

Library

Women's Wisdom Library New Additions

As well as recent purchases by the Centre, to address gaps of information in the Library, some generous women from the community have also donated a number of new books. New additions include:

  • Girl Stuff: Your full on guide to the teen years by Kaz Cooke
  • Emotional Fitness: Facing yourself, facing the world by Cynthia Morton
  • A Helping Hand with Life: Breaking the cycle of self-sabotage and learning the language of positive living by Cynthia Morton
  • What, No Baby: Why women are losing the freedom to mother, and how they can get it back by Dr Leslie Cannold
  • Wonder Woman: The myth of having it all by Virginia Haussegger
  • Life begins at Menopause: A guide to the changes at midlife and menopause for women and their partners by Dr Mandy Deek

These and other new titles are currently available to borrow from the Women's Wisdom Library, so call in and check them out.

Journals and Magazines

Did you know that we subscribe to and receive a wide variety of journals, magazines and newsletters? You're most welcome to drop in, have a browse, a cuppa and to photocopy pages of interest for yourself.
